Many people say that pool is a dying sport, but I think that statement deserves perspective. Pool just isn't as popular as it once was-- ( that might be limited to region as well. Who knows, maybe where you live people are pogo'ing down the street on cues. Nevermind)
The real question is, where its popularity has declined, will it ever make a come back?
Or an even better perspective:
Lets not frame that question as will pool make a come back, but rather what does pool need to make a come back. I'm so sick of hearing people complain about pool's demise. I want to hear more about what needs to be in place, and what action steps need to be taken to put it there. But this does lead us down the rabbit hole, because to answer this question, we need to know why pool was popular before, and why it isn't now.
I have my own opinions, but I'd like to hear yours.
Pool is a recreational passtime. We have far more recreational activities then we have ever had, with social media sites and video games you can play with and against friends from the comfort of their homes. I do believe that this is a phase, and people will long for and seek out face to face contact, and social sports such as pool, darts, and bowling will rebound.

Neil Robertson won £150,000 ($244,918.50) at the UK Championship Snooker 2013 event! I believe that having major qualifier snooker tournaments around the USA with a really big final USA Snooker tournament could go over in a big way and have the winner go on to World Snooker tournaments. I don't think that the other games of pool will EVER come back again! By the way, I was running 100+ and breaking 140's at age 17! I started on a snooker table at age 12! I played in 4 snooker tournaments and won them all easily. If this kicks off, LOOK FOR ME, RIGHT UP FRONT!

I believe for pool to make a comeback it will need a set of standardized rules and equipment. It will also need to have a lot more money in it for the professionals. As it stands now there is more money to be made shooting darts. There needs to be incentive to get people to compete not only at a team level but also individually. Most of the current leagues operate on a handicap system that limits the combined skill level of the players on a team. There seem to be too many players in the leagues that are not properly rated for their skill level either.
I don't get it why there are people who keep on saying that billiard is not popular anymore and no one wants to play it. I just love at the idea with their minds because obviously, a lot of people are still fond of billiards and they are willing to allot time for this! There are still billiard players who earn from doing it and there are rookies who have been training themselves just to be good at playing billiard. This is the reason why it's not yet dead, and it wouldn't die soon!
